Lake Pend Oreille / Schweitzer Mountain / etc.

Deemed by some "Lake Tahoe North".  This beautiful, crystal clear lake is one of the deepest freshwater lakes in the entire country.  At over 1100 feet in depth, 43 miles in length and with
111 miles of shoreline, few lakes host the scenery that does Pend Oreille--(aka) Lake Pend Oreille.  The lake provides many protected coves that make for great water skiing, and the southwesterly prevailing winds provide for many beautiful days of sailing during the summer months.
The Selkirk, Monarch and Cabinet Mountains appear to rise directly from the clean, blue lake water and then reach up to touch the sky.  Sunsets are exhilarating and crowds minimal.  Dining at the many fine, local area outdoor resturaunts with their many flowers and breathtaking views is a welcomed break from inner city bistros.

Schweitzer Mountain ski area boasts excellent alpine and cross country skiing and world class snowboarding.  Schweitzer has 2900 skiable acres with 82 trails  (and counting) and 2 large open bowls.  Annual snowfall is over 300" and there is often no lift line waiting.  Night skiing is also availabe from Christmas until mid March.
Many other really fine ski areas are accessible by car
and are within a 2 hour drive.
Try a round of golf at one of the many fine area Idaho, Montana or British Columbia golf courses. The Jack Nicklas Signature Golf Course, now being built at The Idaho Club, is only 10 minutes to the north by car or boat.
World class, white water rafting is also available within 45 minutes to the north and 3 hours to the east and south. Idaho has the most wilderness of any of the lower 48 states, so spend the day hiking the many beautiful trails through the national and state forests.
If fishing is your pleasure try a 30 pound lake trout just off your dock or try some of the best fly fishing in the Rockies--only a stones(fly) throw away.  Cast to a rising rainbow trout or steelhead on the world famous Clark Fork River, a wild bull trout on the Kootenai River, brookies on the Moyie River, or some Montana whitefish and northern pike on the lower Flathead River.  We have it all.  There are also fishing rumors of some huge muskie in some of the local area lakes.
And ladies you can also shop 'til you drop.  Sandpoint is  the home to Coldwater Creek.  There are many fine clothing shops, local area wineries, and many, many art and craft stores.  Antiques are a plenty and don't forget to visit one or our two Starbuck's while walking through town.  Oh yeah, there is also jewelry and the Panida Theater too!  The Panida opened in 1927 and now hosts internationally renowned recording artists, symphony, and even opera.
Any way you slice it, you could not find anywhere a more beautiful area to live or have your second home.  The Sandpoint, ID area is, without a doubt, the up and coming place to live in the Northwest.
